Bea Arthur iSaved a Gay Bar in the show Maude.
There’s a lot to learn from this episode let alone to unpack when it comes to this episode I think One of the biggest lessons throughout this episode was one to not move around with hate in your heart. Other thing is you’re not only have to allow yourself and allow people around you to be happy if you don’t want people to block your happiness you can’t go around blocking others happiness either. Maude and her neighbor Arthur a right wing conservative decided to head to a gay bar.Arthur who very much so is against not only gay people but the thought of them having their own public setting to gather in socialize. When you really begin to think about it that is the mindset of a lot of bigoted men in America to this day. “I don’t want to see it so get rid of it.” That’s the mindset that Arthur came into the gay bar with. While also trying to get rid of the bar claiming that they were breaking so many different laws two then at the and finally figure out that not only was the bar are right outside of city limits so therefore they weren’t breaking any laws to begin with. Arthur began ranting about how bad gays are and how there’s laws(at the time) that we’re against homosexuality being displayed in public settings. Arthur ended up getting talked into going to the gay bar and once they arrived Arthur’s blood began to boil.He began to find more ways for him to become even more uncomfortable in the bar while Maude tried to get him to ease up . She tried to coach him and prep him entire way stating that gay people are people most importantly and she drives that point home and Arthur realizes this once he finds out that there’s nothing he can do to get rid of them. Which I must say is extremely shitty, he tried to argue how it’s against the law and how even God doesn’t like Gay people. They are just people and to think there’s still people who fully believe and support Arthur in his outrage is crazy to me.
